Hurricane expert Dr. Phillip Klotzbach will present his annual hurricane forecast at the Honeywell Generator booth #33334, at the National Hardware Show in the Las Vegas Convention Center. Klotzbach will speak Tuesday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

Klotzbach is a research scientist in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University where he is the lead author on the Atlantic basin hurricane forecasts that he publishes along with Dr. William Gray.  Dr. Gray, professor emeritus of Atmospheric Science, has studied and published hurricane projections since 1984, and Klotzbach began co-authoring the hurricane forecast with him in 2000.

The Atlantic hurricane season, which officially runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, averages 9.6 named storms, with 5.9 of them becoming hurricanes and 2.3 intense hurricanes.  “The Atlantic has seen a very large increase in major hurricanes during the 14-year period of 1995-2008 (average 3.9 per year) in comparison to the prior 25-year period of 1970-1994 (average 1.5 per year)”, states Dr. Klotzbach.
