[2008-04-17] A familiar name in the consumer home product industry is entering a new arena. The new line of Honeywell home generators will make its debut at the 2008 National Hardware Show in Las Vegas, May 6 – 8.
As the exclusive licensee of Honeywell portable and home standby generators, Milwaukee-based Northshore Power Systems has designed the new generators to meet the unique needs of homeowners. The residential generators segment, already a 1.2 billion industry, is expected to grow significantly as more homeowners take measures to protect their homes and families from weather disasters and stressed power grids.

More than 100 million homeowners already use Honeywell home comfort products, but the Honeywell generator line, which will include both portable and standby models, represents the Honeywell brand’s first appearance in the generator segment. The portable generators will debut in May, followed by the standby generators in the fall.
For many first-time buyers in the growing home generator space, purchasing a generator can be a daunting experience. Even after buying a generator, some homeowners may still be unprepared when disaster hits – because generators don’t have enough capacity to power their homes or are too complicated to start, especially during stressful, emergency situations.
Northshore Power Systems designed the line of Honeywell home generators that simplify a homeowner’s experience in selecting, purchasing and operating a generator. In the store, Honeywell packaging features a system of icons that help homeowners quickly identify which appliances can be powered by each model. After the purchase, homeowners also benefit from various features that make Honeywell generators easier to operate and more reliable, including color-coded starting instructions, a 24/7 startup helpline, a simplified power control center and an industry-leading, three-year warranty.
The complete line of powerful, efficient Honeywell generators is manufactured by Northshore Power Systems, which is led by generator-industry veterans determined to leverage their expertise to provide dealers and retailers with enhanced service and support. Dorrance Noonan (former chief executive of Generac Portable Products and Briggs & Stratton Power Products) is the company’s CEO; Jeff Servis (former senior vice president of Generac Power Systems) is vice president of dealer sales; and Joe Kampschroer, Todd Welzbacher and Wayne Morgan manage retail sales and marketing.
Northshore Power Systems’ unique business model includes an engineering team based in Ann Arbor, Mich., which allows the company to take advantage of the product development expertise and quality standards of the automotive industry. The engineering team is led by Bernard Ibrahim, an automotive industry veteran who helped create the Aston Martin V-12 engine.
Northshore Power Systems is a portfolio company of Oaktree Capital Management, a global investment firm that manages more than 52 billion in funds.
